Genetic improvement thrust

The company’s genetic improvement thrust is to develop a Duroc boar that is acclimatized to tropical conditions. The primary genetic selection is based on the need to acclimatize to humid tropical conditions, local rations and on a Philippine Index using local genetic and economic inputs. Since 1998, ISGI’s replacement stocks are self-generated. It maintains a large pool of genetic lines and families from which the Unique Genetic Features of ISGI Duroc boars are derived.

Unique genetic features

The Duroc boar in general is widely sought after by farmers as a terminal boar because of its proven genetic characteristics. The ISGI Duroc boar, while possessing the inherent traits of a Duroc, is bred under tropical conditions allowing it to perform significantly better.

Animal health

International Swine Genetics Inc (ISGI) places primary emphasis on maintaining high health status of its herds. Its nucleus farms farm in Palawan observe the most stringent bio-security standards, procedures and protocols in the industry. A monitoring system is in place to detect bio-security breaches as well as compliance with established protocols. ISGI maintains a contingency plan and program that can be activated in the event of an intrusion of a significant disease pathogen in the system.
